Social & Professional Networking for Animal Actors!

Last month I did a photo shoot for the cover of dog's life magazine. I have always used an agent, but this time was contacted directly. The dog used was one that hasn't been used before by an agent and not officially signed with anyone, so I made the deal myself. The shoot went well and they got a lot of nice photos of him.

I got an email today that Purina would like to use other images from this shoot for other things. OK not a problem, but the guy that contacted me wanted to know what price I was thinking. Well in the past, the photographer or company has always had rights to the images and I have never gotten paid for anything besides the initial shoot.

So folks, what price am I thinking? Geesh, they can have them;-) BUT with being a stay at home mom, the extra money is always a blessing. But I don't to over charge or undercharge.

HELP!

Hi Heidi,

I believe they have the rights to the photos taken on the day of the shoot... :-( sorry...But maybe you can get copies out of it!

That is what I thought! I have never had anyone ask me before what he asked me. This is what he said:
What I'm asking for is if Purina wanted to use George for additional
marketing or promotional materials they would need your consent to use
George. Do you have a fee in mind/what would that be?

I told him the following: In the past once the photographer takes the photo and we are paid for the shoot, that is all I get. If you feel they would pay something for George, please give them a reasonable fee. And consent is not a problem.

I didn't know what else to say!

You did just fine. I wish Animal Actors were paid more, but that's the business!

BTW thanks for the comment on Roman's video! I finally added a bunch of Commercials that he's done, so check them out!

Well it was one of those situation where I didn't want to look stupid! I realize the pay isn't good and most of the time just the HEY that is my dog! is enough!! ;-) But I didn't want to cheat myself either.

Thank you for your response!

I think before giving a price I would see a lay out of all the images. Are they talking 2 or 5? I would charge min. $500 a photo
